Successful Marker Reinstallation at Severna Park Library! 6/15/2021

Updated: Jan 11, 2022

On Tuesday, June 15, 2021, upwards of 200 people gathered outside the Severna Park Library to witness the reinstallation of the Anne Arundel County Lynching Memorial Marker. The original marker, dedicated on Calvert Street in Annapolis in September 2019, was inadvertently hit by a city bus last August. When it was determined that the mounting was irreparably damaged, the city paid to replace to marker on Calvert Street, but the original marker itself was intact and could be reinstalled elsewhere. In collaboration with the Anne Arundel County Public Libraries and the Equal Justice Initiative, the marker now stands right outside the entrance to the Severna Park Library, where it will serve as a memorial to the five known lynching victims in AAC and as a way to educate the citizens of our county for many years to come. Many thanks to our fabulous planning committee, spearheaded by the intrepid Renee Cantori!
